One Night During Scripture Study....

There was a little bit of a squabble while we were reading scriptures the other night. We were reading Alma 31, the chapter about the Rameumpton, a high tower where the Zoramites go to pray, each person saying an identical prayer thanking God that they don’t believe in the traditions of their fathers or in Christ and that they can do whatever they like because of it. After some discussion about using the dehumidifier, which is well within the 2nd grader's reach, the snowman on top of the bookshelf was designated as the Rameumpton. This was our high school senior's idea (the snowman is in the senior's reach) and the 2nd-grader agreed to it reluctantly.

There was also quite a bit of time spent selecting the ten stuffed animals who were to be the missionaries to the Zoramites. It was a relief to finally begin reading, and everything seemed to be going smoothly until the senior started to read the verses of the prayer, balancing on the small chair, setting a stuffed ray on top of the snowman with one hand, holding his Book of Mormon in the other.

“No! No!” yelped the 2nd-grader, who tried to knock the ray off. The senior didn't seem to notice the assault on his precarious perch, and continued reading while the 2nd-grader jiggled the chair.

“Franklin, it’s okay,” interrupted an older brother.

“But that’s one of the missionaries!” cried Franklin.

The senior immediately tossed down the stuffed ray. “Well, then, hand me that little Tigger.” Tigger was soon up in the “tower,” and scripture study resumed peacefully once again.
