Even All This Ye Can Do If Ye Will

My mother-in-law was a very sick 87-year-old woman when we brought her to our home from the hospital. She needed her blood pressure monitored, help with grooming and toileting, she wasn't eating more than a nibble at mealtimes, she could barely stand, let alone walk.

I am not a trained medical professional. My sister-in-law is and she instructed me very calmly and thoroughly. Even though I had asked that Mother be brought to our home, I was scared about the responsibility of providing for her care.

It was Fast Sunday. I fasted and prayed for strength. When I got up from my prayer, I saw my triple combo was sitting on my desk. I opened it and the scripture I read was the last part of the 23rd verse of Alma 43.

"....And then may God grant unto you that your burdens may be light, through the joy of his Son. And even all this can ye do if ye will. Amen."

This, together with my sister-in-law's steady advice and counsel has strengthened me.

My burden is light.
