Franklin and I were shopping at a little store that has a wooden nickel program. That is, after you pay for your purchase, you can pick up a wooden nickel from a basket and put it in a slot for one of three local charities. The store then donates real nickels in place of the wooden ones.
Today there were no nickels.
Franklin wandered around looking lost and I mentioned to the clerk how much he looks forward to putting his wooden nickel toward a good cause.
The clerk reached into a bucket and brought up four chocolate candy balls. "Is it okay if I buy him these?" she asked. When I gave my okay, she handed Franklin the candy.
It brightened up the day for all of us.
